[Feature Request] MariaDB

First of all, like many others -- love the idea for this app. Very useful. Thank you!

I'm not sure if you are taking feature requests yet or where you might store them, but I'd love to request MariaDB usage alongside / instead of MySQL!

Thanks for the encouraging feedback and yes, definitely collecting feature requests 🙂 I do have a list of services that I'd like to add over time, and will add MariaDB to it.

Just wanted to reply to say I hear you. After we've released v1.0, I'd love to support MariaDB. I just need to settle on the best way to do so; there are two issues in my mind:

filesize (a third DB engine will increase Indigo's app size considerably, and I have a bunch of other services I'd love to include also)
support (I need a pretty solid understanding of MariaDB before I'd be comfortable shipping it in Indigo).

It's not relevant to the discussion per-se but I'm curious — can I ask your reasons for switching to MariaDB? Do you use some of it's unique features?

All of my production databases are using MariaDB. It is currently the default database of Cpanel & VirtualMin, hence it would be easier to transfer database with the same database engine.
MariaDB has some storage engines out of the box (ie. RocksDB, Tukodb -- for write intensive apps). I haved used these in production databases and it would be great to test this in a development machine rather than spending on a VPS to run and test on these storage engines.
MariaDB has galera cluster out of the box (since 10.1 I think) -- I'm using these in some of my databases.
Some minor annoyances in MySQL that we don't need (ie. ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY config setting)
MariaDB is performant out of the box

While it may not be a deal breaker in indigo stacks not to have MariaDB, having it, would be certainly be easier for me to transfer a MariaDB database in Dev to production and test some features which may be used in production.

PS. MariaDB was created to be a direct replacement of MySQL so I think your support would be the same as that of MySQL

Indigo Just a thought here, could you provide downloadable "extras"?

In this case, MySQL comes default but download the MariaDB service if needed?

I use a mixture of MySQL and MariaDB, which one I use depends on what one the live server is using.

While MySQL and MariaDB are similar, there are differences and those differences can bring you unstuck if you use MySQL local but MariaDB on live.

So having MariaDB is a must have feature.

As a side note, I love what you have done here, while I have only used it for a hot minute, it seems really easy to set up and get going with.

Your idea of downloadable extras is indeed something we're hoping for down the track. I'm thinking that in the specific case of MariaDB I would like to bundle it with the app, as it seems pretty commonly required.
