Secure Connection Failed in Firefox

First off, apologies if this is a simple issue and I'm just not smart enough to figure it out! Second, I have been searching for an alternative option to Mamp due to their lack of support for Mysql 8 and so far I am loving Indigo and finding it fairly straightforward to use (as someone who has only the most basic knowledge of setting up local environments).

My issue is as it says in the title. I am developing in Craft 5, the local site and the admin area load perfectly fine on Chrome, but in Firefox I'm seeing "Secure Connection Failed. An error occurred during a connection to local.skyncare. Peer’s certificate has an invalid signature." Any idea why this might be happening or how to address it? Obviously the simple solution is to just develop in Chrome but I thought it was worth raising the issue.

Hi @grace_c & welcome to the forums 🙂

That's a strange issue — I've just double-checked and my Indigo sites' SSL certs are all accepted fine by Firefox and the sites load as expected.

Could you try the following two tests?

set up a dummy site in Indigo; point it at some static html site if you have one lying around, it doesn't really matter what it is. Give it a domain like mysite.test and then see if https://mysite.test loads ok in Firefox
in Indigo, try giving your local Craft site a different domain eg instead of local.skyncare try skyncare.test and see how Firefox handles that. (It's possible Firefox may have cached the old SSL cert if you've had one set up previously for that domain using MAMP Pro or something else.) Note, you may have to modify the siteUrl in Craft's config/general.php — I have never used Craft though, so I could be talking through my hat 🙂

Indigo Test 1: dummy site gives the same result, the site will not load unless the URL in the browser is changed to http://
Test 2: changing the domain made no difference, again it only works by removing the s from https://

Indigo Just following up on this, any further ideas? I'm currently developing in Chrome but would be great if I could get the SSL situation in Firefox sorted.

@grace_c thanks for your patience; I'm a bit low on ideas on this one.

I fired up a clean test VM and installed Indigo and Firefox into it, and the Indigo welcome test site loads perfectly in Firefox via https. So in a perfectly clean fresh install it does work, which at least is a solid basis to work from 🙂

Perhaps check your Firefox settings are as follows:

The second checkbox is ticked by default in a fresh Firefox install; without it Firefox throws up a big "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead" screen when visiting the Indigo welcome test site, although it still does allow you to "Accept the risk and continue" and see the site.

Indigo hi there, sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I did check the settings you mentioned here and they match with yours. I didn't change anything, but it randomly started working on its own, I have no idea how! It's worth noting that it was a totally fresh install I was working from in the first place. But yeah, it works, so I'm not complaining! Thanks for your time.

Thanks for following up — very glad to hear it came good all on its own. Pretty strange though! I'm still guessing it was some kind of SSL cert cache in Firefox, but who really knows!
